What to expect

Care with room to breathe.

01

Time to actually talk.

Your first adult visit runs 60 to 90 minutes. Follow-ups run 20 to 45 minutes — long enough to think together, not just refill.

02

One physician, the whole picture.

Evaluation, medication, and therapy with the same person. No hand-offs, no retelling your story to someone new.

03

Honest, not rosy.

I'll tell you what I think — including when the answer isn't medication, or when someone else would serve you better.

About

Hello, I'm Dr. Milo Artunduaga.

I'm board certified in both adult and child & adolescent psychiatry. In practice, that means I've spent years studying how people become who they are — and I bring that lens to every conversation.

When you tell me what's hard right now, I'm also listening for the story of how you got here, and what a next chapter could realistically look like. Most of the people I work with are adolescents, young adults, and adults in the middle of a transition: a new city or job, a diagnosis that finally makes sense of things, an identity coming into focus, a relationship ending or beginning. I have a long-standing commitment to LGBTQIA+ patients and to gender-affirming care.

My approach is collaborative. We'll draw on evidence-based psychotherapies — cognitive behavioral, family-based, insight-oriented — and when medication can help, I'll explain exactly why I'm recommending it and what we should expect from it. Small, consistent changes, made together, are how people rise.

Services

How we might work together.

Psychiatric evaluation

A thorough first look at what's going on — your history, your context, and what you want to be different. You leave with a clear picture and a plan, whether or not we continue together.

Adults: one 60–90 minute visit · Children & adolescents: two 45-minute visits

Medication management

Careful, well-explained prescribing when it's the right tool — with the time to talk through what's working, what isn't, and what we'll try next.

Follow-ups: 20–45 minutes, in person or by telehealth

Psychotherapy

Structured, evidence-based therapy matched to you — cognitive behavioral, family-based, or insight-oriented — with a psychiatrist who can also manage the medical side.

Weekly individual therapy · Reduced follow-up rates

Areas of focus

Where I've spent the most time.

Diagnoses are a starting point, not a label. These are the areas where my training runs deepest.

  • ADHD
  • Autism spectrum
  • OCD
  • Anxiety
  • PTSD & trauma
  • Eating disorders
  • Trichotillomania & skin picking
  • Tourette's & tic disorders
  • Gender-affirming care
  • Life transitions

In person, downtown DC

1634 Eye St NW, Suite 550 — two blocks from Farragut West and Farragut North. A quiet office, not a clinic waiting room.

By telehealth

Secure video visits for patients in DC, Maryland, and Virginia [confirm states]. Same care, from wherever you are.

Fit

Who I'm right for — and who I'm not.

I want you to get the best care available, and sometimes that isn't with me. So that you can work with clinicians who focus on exactly what you need, I refer out:

  • Patients over 65 — geriatric psychiatry is its own specialty, and you deserve someone who practices it every day.
  • Anyone currently needing active treatment for substance dependence, where a dedicated program will serve you far better than a solo practice can.

If that's you, please still reach out. I'm glad to point you toward good people.

Fees & getting started

Out-of-network, on purpose.

I don't contract with insurance companies so that the length and frequency of our visits are decided by what you need, not by a billing code. After each visit you'll receive a superbill, and many PPO plans reimburse a meaningful portion. I've partnered with Reimbursify to make submitting claims simple, and a Good Faith Estimate is always available on request.
